English Ver Be interested in lives of others

I went to the police office for renew my driver's license this week.

So I got a lecture. The instructor told us. "There are still many accidents of pedestrians and cars at the intersection still now."

And he said, drivers must have thoughtful consideration to pedestrians.

I am irritated when a pedestrian does not keep the signal while I'm driving. However, I noticed that I was doing the same thing when I walked on the road.

When I drive a car it is important to understand what pedestrians are thinking.

When you do things, do not let selfishness or pride be your guide. Be humble and give more honor to others than to yourselves. Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others.

(Philippians 2:3,4 ICB)

The word "understand" is made from the words "under" and "stand".

In order to understand someone we need to "stand under". That means being humble. And it is to sympathize with the feelings of the others.

This is an important principle that applies not only to driving but also to our human relations.
